A piece of California wine history
This one-of-a-kind Cabernet grapevine comes from Justin Winery’s vineyard behind the old tasting room—the vines that helped produce its celebrated Isosceles wine.
Justin was my first winery client. As their resident artist, I’ve provided artwork for them for 14 years. When these vines were retired, they offered them to me so I could turn them into art for the tasting room. I have a rare few for private collectors.
From vineyard to sculpture
After decades of producing wine, this vine spent ten years drying in my shop before being kiln dried, worked through my finishing process, and sealed with several coats of clear UV sealer.
The light and dark grain and red swirls make this piece something special. A metal field post beside the vine rusted over decades; that iron left its mark in the vine’s striking red coloration. My photos don’t do it justice.
Set it on a mantel or in a wine cellar as a reminder of California wine country—and the vines behind the wines you enjoy.
A base with a story of its own
I made the base in-house from recycled steel and firmly attached it to the vine. My steel supplier recycles metal from old trains dating to the 1940s, ’50s, and ’60s. Pretty rad.
